Parenting Apart Together Project
The PAT(Pilot) project provided a holistic, intergenerational service that was tailor made to fit with individual family needs and circumstances. Delivered by multi-lingual staff the project supported families going through or had been through divorce or separation. Although initially our target was to work with 15 families we received an overwhelming response for our support. This is because Shantona is well respected and trusted resource for the community.
The focus of the project was the children and young people within families. Shantona supported the parents to make sure they understood the impact of a family breakdown on their children and work together for their development. Our partner organisations in helping us to deliver this work were Relate Leeds, Home Start, Citizen Advice Bureau and Mediation Leeds.
How we have helped:
• Shantona have helped 45 families who have been through divorce, separation or a relationship breakdown.
• Users of the PAT project are from many different backgrounds particularly the Pakistani and Bengali communities but also India, Europe, Sudan and Iraq.
• Within our community Shantona is the primary family support service followed by the Citizens Advice Bureau. We also refer families to Relate Leeds and Mediation Leeds.
• Shantona help users access services that have previously been avoided due to language barriers and a lack of trust in cross cultural understanding.
Health Project
We provide services to the most hard to reach communities that do not otherwise have access to facilities until they develop severe or serious health problems. This year we have provided services to the community that improve well-being, promotes healthy choices, gives access to health services and ensures equality in local society.
