Since opening in 1998 Shantona have shown how the power of willingness, passion and belief can change the lives of people and attitudes within the community. Over the past 13 years Shantona has not looked back. Acting as an advocate we became the voice of Bangladeshi women, young people and children, representing them on a strategic level where their views have never before been reached.
Even having gone though our own difficulties from various stages of development, to the disruption from our building extension, nothing has stopped us from delivering extremely effective support to women, children and young people.
Shantona have helped many women and families within the community through:
- Building their confidence
- Developing skills
- Providing opportunities
- Increasing awareness
- Improving their quality of life
This has been done through providing various educational, recreational and social activities as well as other programmes including health initiatives.
Our projects have been across various sectors of our organisation. Some of these no longer exist due to lack of funding but the impact they made has had a very positive effect on the community we serve. We have provided a selection of projects to show what areas we have supported and the ways in which we helped.
Health Project
We provide services to the most hard to reach communities that do not otherwise have access to facilities until they develop severe or serious health problems. This year we have provided services to the community that improve well-being, promotes healthy choices, gives access to health services and ensures equality in local society.
