Case Study: Parenting sessions and Shantona Creche
Background - Shantona was running a parenting group that helped parents to become more involved in their child’s learning. Mum decided to join the group as all the aspects were very appealing to her and she was also struggling to keep her child occupied and as he was very energetic and mum didn’t have any patience with him. Having to cope as a single parent and not having any support from those who she most expected from, mum started to feel depressed and lonely.
Mum had little confidence, was a very shy and found it difficult to talk to other people. After hearing about the parenting course, mum was very delighted and without any hesitation she joined the group. Mums child was one of those boys who found it amusing to hit other children which was due to not having enough attention from his mum.
Approach - With regular attendance to the 6 week parenting course, mum could start to see a difference in herself and her child. Sadly the course only ran for a few weeks but with the classes mum attended she was very grateful to the Shantona Crèche for providing a course for parents like herself to become more involved in her child’s learning. The feedback given from mum about the course stated that the Shantona centre is a brilliant crèche for parents to leave their children.
Mum thanked every member of staff that was present at the time for being so supportive and, has also mentioned that if the course ran again she will most definitely join it. Mum found the staff at the crèche were very caring and co-operative and said they were like family. With very low confidence in herself in the beginning mum is now grown into feeling very confident and able to talk to other people. Child settled in the crèche very well sometimes with ups and downs but he was able to oblige to crèche rules. With the activities that were set out for him child has become calmer and more involved as he was kept busy and participated in the games given to him. Child was is now more caring to other children around him.
Outcome - Now mum has more patience to cope with her child and has learned some essential skills on how to deal with her kids on a daily basis. Mum now has a set routine for her child.
She is able to set and provide activities for her child which she learned through the parenting course. With her child being so energetic mum now knows how to keep him busy and can communicate well. Mum is once again very thankful for having such a good course and she is now a lot closer to her child and can help him more for his future.
Health Project
We provide services to the most hard to reach communities that do not otherwise have access to facilities until they develop severe or serious health problems. This year we have provided services to the community that improve well-being, promotes healthy choices, gives access to health services and ensures equality in local society.
