Offering support and building confidence
Established in 1998 the Shantona Women’s Centre originally offered help and support for women of the Bangladeshi community to build their confidence and independence. Now the centre has grown into a diverse, multi-cultural organisation offering women and young children an open, transparent service that builds upon their skills and helps bridge the gap between societies.
Breaking down barriers
Shantona is a well integrated, multi-service agency that supports vulnerable women and children in re-establishing them into the community. Our team have become a respected and renowned voice within the Bangladeshi community having helped to break down language/communication barriers to overcome ignorance and educate the wider society.
Mulit-lingual organisation
With 8 different languages spoken at the centre our culturally diverse group of staff have unrivalled knowledge, experience and understanding that has allowed us to meet the needs of our target audience. This has also gone someway in aiding us to receive the Duke of York Community Initiative Award for our contribution to the community.
Diverse range of services
At Shantona we are always developing our services to ensure that those who need us most get the best possible tailored care and support. Having originally started within the Bangladeshi community we have since progressed and now offer a diverse range of services. For community cohesion and wanting to fit into the wider agenda we have developed our services now working towards reducing inequality in health, running parenting/family support programmes and supporting long term unemployed people return to work.

Health Project
We provide services to the most hard to reach communities that do not otherwise have access to facilities until they develop severe or serious health problems. This year we have provided services to the community that improve well-being, promotes healthy choices, gives access to health services and ensures equality in local society.
